Golden Bear Golf Club is located in an upscale residential community called Indigo Run. The Golden Bear is one of Indigo Runs two golf courses on Hilton Head, and both of these were designed by Jack Nicklaus.

In 2002 the editors of Travel and Leisure Magazine selected the Golden Bear Hilton Head golf course to their list of Americas Top 100 Courses Priced Under $100. At the Golden Bear Hilton Head Golf Club all carts are equipped with Pro Trac GPS Electronic Caddy Systems. These interactive devices make it possible for every golfer to have a number of technical assists close at hand. A push of a button brings up full color screens that provide an overview of the course or information about individual holes. The Caddy System even gives players professional tips about how to play the course and keeps a running score for 1 or more golfers. Not all golf courses on Hilton Head offer GPS Electronic Caddy Systems.

The course clubhouse is well maintained and has a grill that provides players with drinks or informal dining. Full service food and beverage services are available when needed. There is also an onsite pro shop where players can buy accessories, supplies or clothing. Cobra equipment is also available for sale or rent.
