Sea Pines Hilton Head Island Resort
Heron Point Golf Course by Pete Dye
Located at Sea Pines Hilton Head Resort is Heron Point Golf Course which was once known as the Sea Marsh Golf Course. Thanks to a complete transformation engineered by the master architect of golf, Pete Dye, the new course setting bears no resemblance to its former self. This Sea Pines Resort golf course was originally completed in 1967 but it was soon outclassed by newer and more modern courses.
The original Sea Marsh Golf Course was appealing aesthetically, but it could not compete head to head against Sea Pines Resorts other two masterpieces, Harbour Town Golf Links and Ocean Course. Dye decided to take everything down to bare earth for this monumental task of renovation of this Sea Pines Golf Resort Course.
Pete Dye had already worked on the Harbour Town Golf Course with Nicklaus and he was anxious to undertake this new project. Dye delivered one of the best short game courses that you can find along the South Carolina coastline. Sea Pines Golf Resort became the place to golf and still is.
Heron Point Golf Course is noted for the undulation and movement that has been fully incorporated into this course at Sea Pines Hilton Head Island. There are valleys, hidden bunkers, water hazards and knobs located all around the greens. The water is especially impressive and can make a relatively simple shot into a new and challenging test of nerves on this Sea Pines Resort golf course.
You can look for the Dye trademark of railroad ties along many of the par 3s at the Heron Point Golf Course in Sea Pines Resort. Visual distortion and deception are classic hallmarks of a Pete Dye designed course and there is plenty of this in evidence along the entire 18 holes of this Sea Pines Golf Resort Course.
Most of the holes on this course have more than just water or long bunkers for players to factor into their game at Sea Pines Golf Resort. There are strange angles that you will be forced to use from the tee and you need to keep your eyes open for trees, overhanging branches and unusual doglegs on this Hilton Head golf course.
Heron Point Golf Course now gives no hint that it first came into existence over 40 years ago at Sea Pines Golf Resort. The thickly wooded surroundings are now more open and welcoming than they once were. This Sea Pines Hilton Head public golf course has rental carts included in the fees and guests are able to call upon the onsite pro for tips and instructions.
